Three 4 hour/week flexible Internship positions for Fall 2016

Cancer Companions is a fast growing St Louis based not for profit with locations in 19 CC_LogoWithTag-compressed-300x180states across the US.  Our mission is to train, equip and support caring individuals in churches to provide supportive environments to draw cancer family members closer to Christ.  This is done primarily through Christian cancer support groups and one-to-one peer counseling.  More info at www.cancer-companions.org

  1. Marketing Research Intern for Non Profit

Our fast growth through 2016 presents a need to investigate the cancer/social service resources in our new territories so we may develop referral relationships with them.  The marketing Research Intern will locate new resources (ie cancer centers, American cancer Society, etc) through internet searches then call contact to interview for information concerning services they provide. (Completed resource listings for other regions of the country will be provided for reference.)  Finally, intern will propose a marketing plan for the new resources to learn more about Cancer Companions.  The plan can include email blasts, social media, traditional mailings and other creative ideas.

The goal is to connect with 10-15 new cancer resources in the following areas during the length of the fall internship:

  • Cleveland
  • Indianapolis
  • Rochester
  • Bowling Green/Lexington KY

Details:

  • Duration of internship: Oct 3 – Dec 2
  • Hours: flexible
  • Phone call with President 2x’s a month
  • Applicants can do work from home.
  • No compensation

Responsibilities:

The goal is to connect with 10-15 new cancer resources in 4 areas and design a marketing plan to introduce these contacts to Cancer Companions.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Able to achieve deadlines.
  • Develops creative marketing approaches.

2. Graphic Design Intern for Non Profit

We are redesigning our website and e-newsletter and need images/logo’s that pull the audience to learn more.  Also need pinterest style quotes designed using author’s text.

Details:

  • Duration of internship: Oct 3 – Dec 2
  • Hours: flexible
  • Phone call with President 2x’s a month
  • Applicants can do work from home.
  • No compensation

Responsibilities:

Provide artistic images for home page and header pages on website.  Total 8 images/logo’s.   Also 4 pinterest style quotes. Topics/text for images provided. Ideas for images will be brainstormed with the President but responsibility for choosing content falls on the intern.

Qualifications:

  • Graphic Artist abilities.
  • Photographic skills optional
  • Excellent eye for the creative, unusual, engaging image which expresses the larger topic.

3. Social Media/Blog Columnist Intern for Non Profit

The blog column will be called Seeing God in Your cancer Journey.  The idea for this blog column is to have short (less than 250 words) articles with cancer survivors or caregivers.  The question they will answer is: where did they See God in Their Cancer Journey?

Columnist  will record the interviews so that you can edit their words but still write the article in their first person capturing their “voice”.  Like humans of New York.   http://www.humansofnewyork.com/

I will provide the contact info for the Cancer Companion volunteers who have offered to share their stories.  Columnist will email them and schedule a time to talk by phone.  Then record the interview, edit it and submit the article.  The other thing we will ask of them is for them to send a selfie form their phone.  I want that raw, casual look.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview 7 cancer companion volunteers and write seven 250 word or less blog posts.
  • Condense blog articles into social media posts.
  • Organize photos and articles for use in newsletter and social media.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Solid editing skills
  • Enjoys talking with people and learning about their stories.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Able to achieve deadlines.

Beyond being a Christian Counselor and the President of Cancer Companions, Karen loves to read (she's a great reader) and loves to sing (she's a bad singer) in her home near St Louis, MO. Cancer has personally touched Karen's personal life through her dad - a 23 year colon cancer survivor.
