I love Charles Martin books and in The Mountain Between Us he has way outdone himself. This book dives deeply into the emotional intensity of two strangers fighting for their lives in the frozen wilderness while battling the relationship chaos they left at home. Martin is a master at taking the reader into a marriage that truly restores and unites two people despite their past and brokenness. Discovering this leaves you clinging to a God that does not leave us in our pain but sends people into our lives so He can breath restoration into our darkness.
The book opens with magazine writer Ashley Knox and ER doctor Ben Payne surviving a plane crash on the side of a frozen mountain in the middle of nowhere. You name it, it happens and the responsibility to get the two of them to safety falls to Ben as the novel fills in the back story of how he met, adored and became estranged from his wife. This is more than a page turner, I found my self gripping the sides of the book filled with awe and anticipation for what might happen on the next page. You want to read this book. It’s story will stay with you long after the last page.
