Karen Tripp MS, LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)
President and Founder of Cancer Companions Karen has counseled many families experiencing illness and trauma, including cancer, throughout her practice as a
marriage and family therapist. From that experience, she has developed a program that specializes in helping patients and caregivers experiencing cancer in any phase from diagnosis to post-treatment. Cancer Companions is a ministry for the layperson to use with the guidance of clergy in walking alongside those experiencing cancer. The focus is on inviting the patient and caregiver to grow closer to God and look to Jesus for care and compassion.
Marilyn Weitzel RN, Ph.D.
Affiliate Faculty of Indiana Wesleyan University Marilyn has cared for pediatric and adult patients and families with cancer throughout her career. She finds strength and
hope in a personal relationship with Jesus and takes the opportunity to share Him with others. Dr. Weitzel is a volunteer for Cancer Companions. In this role, she has facilitated groups in support of those who have cancer and those who are caregivers. Formerly, Dr. Weitzel was the Ohio representative and spoke to clergy and parishioners about Cancer Companions and also oriented volunteers / Companions. Currently, she is active in the Journey (Cancer Companion) group at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Step by Step Cancer Caregiver Plan
Cancer is not like other illnesses. The treatments can make you feel worse as they make you better, the fatigue can be nonexistent or chain you to the couch and the people around you cannot figure out how to help. Add on top of this the stress on the caregiver and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Let Family Counselor Karen Tripp teach you a caregiving plan to relieve stress for all concerned.
When: May 1, 2019 / 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Where: Immanuel Lutheran – 115 S 6th St, St Charles, MO 63301
