SONG OF THE WEEK: Dear X, You Don’t Own Me by Disciple

If sometimes you like to rock out to Christian music, this song is for you.  Dear X, You Don’t Own Me tells of the struggle each of us face when the junk from our past comes back to try and snatch away our abundant life in Christ.  The band Disciple gives the depth of the words clarity through the hard hitting rock sound filled with plenty of electric overtones and intense rhythms. The chorus feels like and anthem in sin’s face.   I really like this song.

Dear pain, oh, it’s been a long time
Remember when you were holding me tight
I would stay awake with you all night
Dear shame, I was safe in your arms
You were there when it all fell apart
I would get so lost in your beautiful lies
I let you go
But you’re still chasing

Go ahead
You’re never gonna take me

You can bend
But you’re never gonna break me
I was yours
I’m not yours anymore
Oh, you don’t own me

You know how I like videos that tell the back story of a song.  This one is no exception.  My favorite line is “Sin is like a psycho ex-girlfriend.”  SO TRUE!  Check it out!
