SONG OF THE WEEK: Scars by Jonny Diaz

Jonny Diaz has delivered a song that makes you want to hear each word of the lyrics because they are so true.  I remember driving along, hearing this song on the radio and only catching the first part of the chorus: “Praise God we don’t have to hide scars…” The truth of these few words led me to turn up the radio to hear more.  You’ll feel the same way too.

In the opening of the video, Jonny Diaz explains to message of this song better than I ever could: “I’ve learned that the way to show you the power of my Savior is not to show you I have it all together but to show you the extent to which I’ve been saved. “

Here’s a portion of the, listen, breathe a sigh of relief that not hiding our scars can be praised!

She holds for dear life to the ends of the sleeves in her hands,
Covering up lies that she wrote with a razor sharp pen,
And the sting of the blade is no match for the pain of the loneliness she’s going through,
But we’ve all been there too.

Praise God we don’t have to hide scars
They just strengthen our wounds, and they soften our hearts.
They remind us of where we have been, but not who we are
So praise God, praise God we don’t have to hide scars

You can still see the mark on his hand where there once was a ring
He watched decades of history dissolve when she wanted to leave
And the hole that it left there inside of his chest
Is a canyon a thousand miles deep
We all know how that feels.
