SPOTLIGHT: Pastor Mark Burgdorf from Grace Church St Louis

Great memories, Great friends. Grace Church of St Louis was the very first Cancer Companions church and Mark Burgdorf was the first Pastor to believe in the ministry. Looking bacMarkBurgdorf_smk, I can see the Lord preparing the hearts of all involved for years before the seeds began to sprout. Mark and I had met a few years before after I published my book God is Bigger Than Your Cancer. We stayed in touch and continued to try to find a way that we could work together. The opportunity finally came when Christy Fry, a Grace Church member, decided to become a trained Cancer Companion and lead the group. I never saw how God was using each of us- Mark, Christy and me- to be in just the right place at just the right time to see His plan come together. Here is what Mark has to say about the ministry: ” We are way glad that Karen led the charge at our church in regards to starting a Cancer Companions ministry. Karen did an awesome job in
helping to identify, train and support our brand new group leaders. And
boy, did they need it! They (leaders) needed to provide (and did
provide) care for cancer families who were in real need for spiritual,
emotional and mental support, during the most difficult times in their
lives. And as a pastor, it is a tremendous relief to know that now we
have a spiritually encouraging ministry to direct people to who have
cancer. I personally read through the material before we launched the
ministry and I was blown away!  The material is so well put together and
I can’t say enough about this class and again, we are WAY glad that we started the class and support system at Grace.”
